Writing for Publication

This assignment will be separated into two graded assignments, one per semester.

Directions:  Pick one writing option.

(Option 1) Write an imaginary dialogue between your teacher and one or two parents or guardians about your performance and progress in this class.  Try to imagine what your teacher might say about your strengths and weaknesses and about how you might improve.  Write what your parent or guardian might say in response and what questions he or she might have for your teacher.

(Option 2)  You’ve stepped into the “Twilight Zone” and have turned on the television.  The only program that you can tune into features you doing your math homework.  What do you see?  Describe your surroundings and how you look while you’re working.  Write a narrative for the program.

Rough Copy Due:  No later than the end of the second six-weeks

  • You must have your rough draft peer edited.
  • Your grade will be comprised of whether or not you had your rough draft with you (and finished) on your assigned day and if you participated in peer editing.

Final Version Due:  No  later than the end of the fourth six-weeks

Bring you rough draft AND your final draft to class on your assigned date.  Your grade will be based on the included rubric.

    • You must complete the cover sheet provided by the teacher.
    • The final draft (with cover sheet stapled to top) and the rough draft must be turned in.
    • This assignment (final version) must be typed; standard rules (Times New Roman, 12 Font, one-inch margins, double-spaced).
